Public Meeting
Firstly thank you to everyone who came along to our public meeting on Thursday 8 March. Over 250 attended and we have received a large amount of really positive feedback.
Thanks also to Julia Parfitt (Chair of our Local Board) and Cynthia Gillespie (Chief Strategy Officer, Auckland Transport) for coming along to answer questions and share their thoughts.
It was also great to have our Local Ward Councillor Mr Walker attend to show his support for our cause.
The discussion was robust, honest and very thought-provoking, with locals sharing some great ideas for temporary fixes as well as permanent ones.
Here's a selection of those ideas and thoughts shared:
-
Add a merge lane for traffic turning left out of Glenvar Road onto East Coast Road
-
Move the end of the 80km zone further north on East Coast Road so traffic will be slower when they get to the Glenvar intersection
-
Heavy trucks should not be going on Glenvar Road – a weight restriction is needed
-
Put in temporary lights giving cars a chance to get out of Glenvar and Lonely Track - just like what's been done at the Rosedale Road roundabout
-
A footpath is imperative - absolutely nowhere for people/students to walk
-
Developments shouldn't begin until the infrastructure is in place to accommodate the growth
-
Put in a speed camera between the 50km sign and Glenvar on East Coast Road
-
Traffic at Glamorgan Road and Okura also need to be investigated as the effect of the Long Bay development will impact those roads also - it needs to be taken as a whole project rather than 'piece-meal '
The question was also raised why Glenvar will become a single lane for 5 months while the roundabout to connect Glenvar Ridge Rd is being built. Cynthia is going to ask Auckland Transport to reconsider this.
Erica and Cynthia are going to look into some of the ideas and see if they can be actioned immediately while we continue to fight the bigger fight.
